Day 10: An uphill battle

Just a quick update. I know I’m woefully behind. Easter and family kept me busy last weekend, and now I’m frantically trying to catch up, but my characters are having the longest dinner party in history and all I want to do is go back and edit out half the scenes. Anyway… my update:

Currently editing page: 52
Number of pages edited today: 12

Current novel length:  186 pages (see why I need to edit out some of the scenes?)

Goal for tomorrow: more than 3 pages, which seems to be my current average

At this rate, I’ll finish in 45 days. Ugh.

Sunday updates and goals – Progress!

We have progress! Yay! Here are the numbers:

  • # of words written: zippo, but I started an outline
  • Blog posts: two (three if you count this one)
  • Contract work: After finishing a complete rough draft last week, I haven’t done a single thing this week
  • Office de-cluttering: One box organized; one bag of trash
  • Books read: One

These are my goals for this week:

  • # of words written: finish outline
  • Blog posts: two (other than this one)
  • Contract work: Need to reconnect with client on needs
  • Office de-cluttering: get through two boxes
  • Books read: one
  • Play with my daughter: always!

There’s more, but I really need to get to bed at a decent time tonight. I haven’t been getting enough sleep lately.

Sunday updates and goals

First, the updates… uh, not many. Maybe I’ll just start with the numbers:

  • # of words written: zippo
  • Blog posts: uno (yay! two if you count this one)
  • Contract work: Finished outlines for three user guides; one outline still in progress; wrote/edited eight topics
  • Office de-cluttering: don’t ask
  • Books read: zippo

These are my goals for this week:

  • # of words written: some
  • Blog posts: two (other than this one)
  • Contract work: Finish outline #4; write/edit 70 or so topics
  • Office de-cluttering: get through one box or put away one stack o’ crap
  • Books read: one
  • Play with my daughter: always!

My new hope is that if I put some goals out there for all the world to see, I’ll be able to stick to them. I’ll be sure to blog about how it all goes.

That’s about all I have tonight. I’m heading to bed early. Seriously. Now. Or within 10 minutes, whichever comes first.

Creating an outline using the Novel Idea Summary Sheet

While searching for outlining methods, I kept running into this Novel Idea Summary Sheet. It looks useful, but it wasn’t in a usable format. So, I tossed it into a word doc and uploaded it to Scribd for anyone who wants an editable version of it. It was my first time using Scribd, so let me know if you have any issues.
